Indigenous Vision is proud to be apart of MMIW & MMIP community events across four states this year! We teamed up with others who are committed to spreading awareness and acknowledging the families and loved ones directly impacted by the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and People crisis across Turtle Island.

On May 1st we released our two-part podcast special where we shared space with Emily Washines (Yakama Nation, Washington State), Brandon Nahsonhoya (Phoenix, AZ), Lea Wetzel (Great Falls, MT), Eztli Amaya (Las Vegas, NV), and Deanna Blackcrow (Las Vegas, NV), who are all dedicated to MMIW & MMIP awareness and action.

There are many events across the US and Canada (who recognize May 5th as ‘Red Dress Day’) and we’re trying to get the word out about as many as we possibly can using our platforms. You can follow Indigenous Vision on instagram and facebook where we’ll be sharing event posters from across the US and Canada. We’ve also sent dozens of our self defense kits to events happening in Yakama Nation in Washington State, and to Elko Nevada where the 2nd Annual MMIW Conference is happening.
IV Self Defense Kit

This year we’re handing out self defense kits at MMIW events in Missoula, MT, Las Vegas, NV and in Phoenix, AZ! We’ve put together 250 kits (please use with common sense and caution) that includes a personal alarm, flashlight, whistle, kubaton, seat belt cutter, and personal door lock. We teamed up with Kola Shippentower-Thompson who created The Wisawca Project; a safety plan worksheet to use, and we’ve included that plan as a QR code on a sticker that will be attached to every kit.

If you’re unsure about how to support the MMIW & MMIP community in your area, spending some time researching ongoing cases, grieving families, and any community led events can be found using google. You can also wear red on May 5th to spread awareness, set up red lights in your yard, or hang up a red dress on your property to bring attention to this ongoing crisis. We stand in solidarity with everyone showing up for MMIW & MMIP awareness, legislative change, grieving families, and those who are unable to speak up.
